Communication Across the Curriculum: Plagiarism in Writing & Presentations
Facilitators: Dr. Terri Fredrick and Dr. Nora Heist
Location: 1220 Booth Library Center for Student Innovation and with FDIC Flex on Zoom
What constitutes plagiarism and how might we, as educators, respond to it? How do we address ethical failures (e.g., copying a paper off the internet) versus knowledge failures (e.g., having a works cited page but not including in-text citations)? And how do we minimize the possibility that students plagiarize in the first place? In this session, we will address what constitutes plagiarism in writing and oral communication and offer strategies for proactively addressing these concerns in the classroom to facilitate a nuanced discussion about addressing plagiarism on campus.
